Tuesday's Can Be Tough

So today was definitely one of those days; where you wake up and you are on the wrong side of the bed, you forgot to finish your homework, and you are already late for school, kind of days.  I'll be honest for the first little while I tried to stay as positive as possible...but...I gave up...after about five whole minutes I gave up.  Believe me I had a rant I was dying to post all day, but now that I'm here, I'm not really feeling it.  Truth is life goes on, whether I rant or not. Plus it's Thanksgiving break and its time to be thankful, right!  Things could have gone worse today.  So today I am thankful for the ability to move on and get better.

Speaking of getting better here are some pngs I made via Illustrator. And no I don't know why I made witch in the middle of November.  Maybe I was just going for a holiday scheme.

I think I should give the witch a name...any ideas?

Either way that's all for today.  Just a short and sweet speech about how I really wanted to rant but I didn't.

Digital Daze

So lately I have been thoroughly intrigued by the digital side of art.  I have always loved to paint and draw, but now I am trying out the digital side of things.  I'm currently taking photography, a video class, and digital media class.  You'd be surprised to see how all three seem to walk hand in hand.  From Photoshop to Illustrator and Final Cut Pro and Premiere Pro, I have had my hands full trying to become thoroughly acquainted with each, as quick as I can. To add to the excitement the first project in my digital media class was definitely my favorite "art" project I have ever done!! We were asked to make either a double sided card or  magazine.  After some arguing I was able to get the best of both worlds and make both a Christmas card and magazine cover but only one side of each. Here are the results:

My Christmas card turned out alright though I'm still not sure I love the colors. The photo was definitely part of why I loved the card so much.  It was one of my first attempts at the Bokeh effect.  I placed the Santa figurine on a piano bench to mirror the affect and spent about an hour and maybe a hundred photos trying to get the perfect photo. I was ecstatic when I found that I had succeeded. The bow was created by me in illustrator as well thanks to some brilliant tutorials created by my teacher.

As for my magazine...I LOVE IT!!!  So maybe to an experienced editor's eye it isn't perfect, but hey, for one of the first projects I have ever done, this is pretty impressive.  All the pictures were taken by me, so yes the cover shot is a selfie. If you look close you can even see my hands holding the camera in the irises.  The text in it of itself isn't that impressive either but I loved the look with the least amount of text so I went with it.  I nailed the color scheme!  I'll admit it, I am obsessed with gray and yellow and who doesn't love a bit of turquoise thrown in.  This was created with all adobe applications; mostly Photoshop and Illustrator, but a little Lightroom was used to edit the photos.

All in all I am excited to see what else I learn.  We're going into a sound segment next and later on 2D animation.  I have a little bit of previous experience in both but it will be fun to expand my horizons. 

A New Year and a New Beginning

   I had several posts that I had posted before this but, I realized as I read through them that well...they didn't meet the standards of my whole new beginning idea.  Then since they were rather old, not well thought through, and rather fake, I deleted them.  No regrets.  Now here we are with a fresh start.
  For my introduction how about this: My name is Katelyn Gallacher and I love art.  A little too cheesy for you?  Well let me explain, I genuinely love art, almost any and every form. (Emphasis on the almost.)  In fact due to my extreme love of art I can almost always be found doing crazy projects whether it's simply a painting, a DIY project, or cooking up a crazy new recipe.  So I figured it's about time that I started sharing my art and getting some feedback.  That is what this blog is for, to share my ideas and work and find out what other people are thinking about my stuff.
  To kick off the "start" of my blog I will show you guys my most recent project.  As with many of you I recently watched the newest Disney Animated Film: Frozen.  After I finished watching I couldn't help but be inspired by all the beautiful animation from the movie.  One thing led to another and before I knew it I was drawing my own Disney princess as well as my first picture done with the illustrious Copic markers.

I was going for a rather Aztec feel but my friends tell me she looks more from the Greek era.  Maybe some competition for Megara?

This drawing was inspired by the executive producer and animating director of Tangled, Glen Keane. His character sketches are beautiful, fun, and very inspiring.
  Please excuse the terrible photography it was rather late when I drew this.  This was a blast to draw and if you haven't seen Frozen or Tangled yet I highly recommend them.  As for my next project you'll have to wait and see.
